With virtually no rain for the month of February it is little surprise that the river is pretty near on it`s bones. Having said that, both the Private Beat and Beat One have been quite well fished. Over the past five or so years there seems to have been a distinct lack of Kelts around. This is despite seeing lots of fish on the redds in October/ November. it is a really strange situation and seeking some sort of answer might not be a bad idea. For the past ten years we have had Oyster Catchers nest just across the river from the house. They are here again this year and have been joined by a pair of Mallards and, for some strange reason, a pair of Common Gulls. I will keep you updated.
